D² has been crocheting sleeping mats for the homeless out of plastic grocery bags. However, our new goal is to increase the number of mats distributed in the homeless community by partnering with schools and other organizations with the new loom project as the homeless population is exploding! We will continue to train volunteers to crochet on Zoom each Tuesday at 5:30 pm for those who prefer to work alone.
Crocheting is a much longer process depending on the amount of time a volunteer has to invest, but a mat on a loom can be worked on by multiple people, making it a much faster process.
